60s Entertainers Coordinator’s report for 2024/5
The 14th February was our first day back after the xmas break, and were straight into revision
Of some of our Items, it was good to get started again and hope for a busy 2025.
Our bookings for 2024 were 24, quite a few were cancelled due to Covid and one where we were so short of members (6) of us.
A couple of months we did three in a row but I feel that’s too much, I would like us to go back to two a month maybe the 2nd and the 4th weeks this would give us more time for rehearsals.
Our new Item Bring me sunshine had got off to a slow start but by December we had it right and with the costumes it all went well.
In April Beverley decided to take a break from performing in Items and has concentrated on giving us more help with our singing.
We bought back some of our favourites like
Singing in the rain, Show Biz, The Pearlies, and The Irish, Candyman, All at Sea, Hey look me over, Whistle stop, and the Western.
These were all basic ones through the year , we didn’t do, The Blue Beat, or Calypso , maybe
2025 for these as well as a new one.
In May Chris advised us of his retirement as of December, this would leave a big gap in the group, however in November he told us that he would like to do one more year as long as his health is good, and we have accepted this and are very pleased he is not leaving .
Beverley was happy to step up as our pianist.
We didn’t entertain at the main 60s Mid-year afternoon as they had no piano, but due to a donation of one we were able at the Christmas one.
It was a big year for Chris and Carol they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on November 28th a presentation of flowers was given to them. Then on December 12th we had a potluck lunch to celebrate Chris’s 20yrs commitment as our pianist, we then presented him with a lovely award and performed our vison of the song Piano Man, with words put together by Joy. I believe Chris was speechless. What a lovely day it was.
The next week was our breakup at Diggers in Mosgiel we had a lovely lunch paid for from our funds but not from Donations from concerts. Presentations were made.
My thanks again to Chris for your commitment to our group.
My thanks to Beverley for being our Musical Director and keeping us in tune.
My thanks also to Joy for your patience and expertise in teaching us new steps to a new old items.
My thanks to Noel for looking after the banking, and for looking after the copying and the hall.
To Ngaire it’s been a hard year with bookings being on and off, as well as a bad year health wise but we really do appreate how you handled it all. Thankyou foe all that you do.
Thankyou Len for keeping up with the emails for me you do a great job, we all look forward to your reminders.
Thank you to Pam Whip for all your help given to me in many ways.
To Fay and Pam for looking after the morning tea thanks we really need that coffee.
Lastly to all the group we have had a big year again, and have enjoyed what we do and it’s great that we can bring a smile to others, Keep it up.
My year has been a good one and the thing I enjoy most is the friendship of you all,
I am happy to do one more year as your co-ordinater if approved by you all.
